Josh Sims came off the bench to help Reading to a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in the Championship. Ahmed Elmohamady opened the scoring for the hosts, but a late Sam Baldock penalty earned the Royals a point.

In Scotland, Alfie Jones played the entirety of St Mirren’s home meeting with Livingston, but could not help prevent them falling to a 2-0 defeat in the Scottish Premiership.

First-half goals from Jack Hamilton and Alan Lithgow were enough for the visitors on Jones’s second appearance for the club.

Guido Carrillo played the full 90 minutes as Leganes came from 2-0 behind to draw 2-2 at home to Real Sociedad.

Goals from David Zurutuza and Asier Illarramendi had put the visitors in front, before two second-half strikes from former Liverpool man Nabil El Zhar.

Elsewhere in Spain, there was success for Sofiane Boufal as Celta Vigo recorded a 2-1 victory over Levante.

Boufal replaced Iago Aspas in the 67th minute, as goals from Pione Sisto and Maximiliano Gomez secured all three points.

Jordy Clasie played 83 minutes of Feyenoord’s eight-goal thriller against Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Feyenoord ran out 5-3 winners at Abe Lenstra Stadion thanks to goals from Jens Toornstra (2), Robin van Persie, Tyrell Malacia and Yassine Ayoub.

Ryan Seager suffered a 1-0 home defeat with SC Telstar against MVV Maastricht in Eerste Divisie. The forward played 69 minutes before being replaced by Facundo Lescano, before the hosts saw Rodny Lopes Cabral sent off in stoppage time.

It was a day to forget for Kingsley Latham, as Dorchester Town lost 5-0 to a dominant Weymouth side in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South, while Harrison Davis came on in the 12th minute as Tiverton Town’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end against Taunton.
