Ings nets first goal
Southampton striker Danny Ings netted his first goal for the club on Saturday, in the 2-1 defeat at Everton, as he got up and running on his full debut.
Ings swept in from close range after a James Ward-Prowse corner had been flicked on by Mario Lemina early in the second half.
Manager Mark Hughes said: “For him, coming to a new club, as a striker you want to get off the mark very, very quickly and that’s what he has done, so that’s a positive.”
Redmond opens up
Nathan Redmond gave an open and insightful interview after Saturday’s match at Goodison Park, revealing how he put in extra work over the summer in a bid to put a difficult campaign in 2017/18 behind him.
“Last season was one of the worst I’ve ever experienced, personally, in terms of how I was playing and how stuff was going behind the scenes. I can’t dwell on that. It’s all down to how I react and how I respond,” he explained.
“I’ve sat down with the manager – we’ve had several conversations throughout pre-season – and I said I’ve been away and training by myself to be ready for this season,” he said. I want to be the player I know I can be and what a lot of people expect me to be.”
Romeu hits a century
Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu hit a landmark in Saturday’s game at Everton.
The match represented Romeu’s 100th Premier League appearance for Southampton.
In total, Romeu has now made 123 appearances for the club since signing from Chelsea in August 2015.
Open training session takes place
This morning sees St Mary’s host an open training session, with supporters getting the chance to watch Mark Hughes put his squad through its paces, while the official 2018/19 squad photo also takes place.
The first-team players will also be meeting fans in the afternoon and signing photos for them.

Under-18s edged out in a thriller
Southampton’s youngsters played their part in an exciting encounter away to West Ham in the Under-18 Premier League on Saturday.
Headers from Christian Norton and Kayne Ramsay, either side of a pair of goals for the hosts, looked to have earned a well-deserved point.
However, a heavily deflected late strike earned West Ham the win, with the Under-18s next in action this coming Saturday, when they visit Fulham.
Under-23s in action tonight
Radhi Jaïdi’s team tonight travel to face their Stoke City counterparts (7pm BST), as they look to continue their perfect start to the season.
The Under-23s started their Premier League 2 campaign with a 2-0 home win over Middlesbrough, before winning 1-0 against Dinamo Zagreb on their Premier League International Cup debut last week.
