Radhi Jaidi has called on his young charges to carry their early season momentum into Monday’s Premier League 2 trip to Stoke.
Back-to-back wins over Middlesbrough, in a highly-polished opener at Staplewood, and Dinamo Zagreb in the PL International Cup in the past couple of weeks have set Saints off to a flyer on two fronts.
Elements of both performances have pleased Jaidi and the same application and concentration will be needed against a dangerous Stoke side at St George’s Park on Monday night.
“What has impressed me most about our recent performances has been the willingness to do the ugly side of the game, keeping the clean sheets and winning the second balls,” he said.
“The amount of application and intensity that we’ve put in to deal with the opposition we’ve had and the decisions the boys are making on the field have been really strong.”
“When we have the ball, we have played with good tempo. We showed good game management in the last match to get us the result against Zagreb.”
Goals from Jake Hesketh and Callum Slattery secured maximum points – and a PL2 double over Stoke - for Saints U23s in their last trip to the Potteries but a sterner test is expected this time around.
“I think it’s going to be a good football game. Both teams will try to play out from defence and both have quality individuals.
"It will be a good game to watch and, as ever, it will be decided by fine details. Hopefully we can repeat the hard work and commitment we have shown recently because it is going to be a tough game.”
