Danny Ings has been reflecting on a whirlwind start to his Southampton career.
The striker, signed at the 11th hour on transfer deadline day last Thursday, admitted even he had doubts over whether the deal would go through in time.
Less than 72 hours later, Ings was making his Saints debut on the opening day of the season against former club Burnley, but now hopes to settle into a more relaxed way of life having moved back to his Hampshire roots.
“The hardest thing has been trying to get my dogs down here!” he joked.
“We pushed it over the line right at the end on deadline day, so I’m extremely happy.
“There was part of that day when I thought it wasn’t going to happen, but when we got it done I was just so eager to get going.
“I couldn’t sleep that night – I wanted to get in with the lads and train. I’m just so happy to be here.
“I’m going to work hard every single day to improve as a player and for the team as well.”
