Young Southampton defender Alfie Jones has today completed a season-long loan move to Scottish top-flight club St Mirren.

The 20-year-old joins last season’s Scottish Championship winners, and will look to help them build on what has been an encouraging start to life back in the Premiership.

Jones’s move comes a few weeks after he signed a new two-year contract extension with Saints, taking his deal at St Mary’s through to 2021.

A centre-back, who is also capable of playing an accomplished role in midfield, Jones won the club’s Young Player of the Year award in 2016 and has since gone on to captain Southampton’s Under-23s side.

He will now earn additional valuable experience throughout the coming year north of the border.

The club will be monitoring Jones’s progress closely throughout the season, and wish him good luck for the campaign.
