Fresh from a percentage of pre-season with the first team, young midfielder Callum Slattery says he's more than ready to make a mark on a new competition, ahead of tonight's Premier League International Cup meeting with Dinamo Zagreb.
The opposition will be largely unfamiliar to Saints' youngsters, but the 19-year-old isn't afraid of the unknown - as the Under-23s prepare to make their International Cup debut this evening.
Slattery featured in Saints' 2-0 league win over Middlesbrough on the opening day of the season, and has said he'll use that confidence to make a positive impact on tonight's cup clash.
"It was a great pre-season, and good to start off the actual season with a win last Friday," the teenager commented. "We'll be taking that feeling into tonight.
"As a team, we know what we're capable of. It's about taking that confidence into games and sticking together. We want to play well as a team.
"It was a great experience being out in China. To be in and around the new manager, it's good for me to learn. They're always giving you advice and just watching the senior players in training helps you learn.
"The manager keeps an eye on the U23s, so that's a bonus. And if you do well hopefully there's an opportunity waiting for you.
"We look at tonight the same as every other game. We're focussing on playing our way."
