Southampton FC is pleased to confirm that 20-year-old Alfie Jones has signed a two-year contract extension.

Captain of the club's Under-23s side, the defender has penned a deal that will keep him on the south coast until June 2021.

Young Player of the Year in 2016, Jones was part of the squad that travelled to China on pre-season this summer, and has trained regularly under Mark Hughes, since the manager's arrival in March.

During the 2017/18 season, Jones played 21 times in Premier League 2, scoring twice and providing a further two assists. Known for his versatility, he switched regularly between centre-half and defensive midfield, performing impressively in both positions.

Speaking about what the future holds, Jones commented: "I'm delighted to finally put pen to paper and get a new contract sorted.

"Exciting times ahead and hopefully I can push on now.

"It shows the club have faith in me. I've been here a long time, since I was young, and they keep showing faith in me so I want to repay that in the future."
