Manager Mark Hughes was pleased to see fighting spirit among his side, as Saints were able to reverse a two-goal deficit to emerge 3-2 victors against Celta Vigo at St Mary's.

Two solo efforts from Pione Sisto and Iago Asapas meant Saints were chasing the game in the second half, but strikes from Charlie Austin, Stuart Armstrong and a first for Mo Elyounoussi provided Hughes with back-to-back pre-season wins.

Saints now face their final test before the Premier League season begins in earnest, when Borussia Mönchengladbach visit St Mary's on Saturday.

"Pleased with how we went about it," the manager began. "Two nil down in the first half, which I didn't think was a true reflection of the game.

"We went behind to two great individual goals, fantastic finishes. At two nil we're scratching our heads somewhat, we hadn't played poorly and made chances ourselves.

"We needed to do a number of things better in the second half. We needed more rotation in midfield and more depth, be dynamic.

"The back three were also more assertive, and were higher up the pitch. As the game went on, we became stronger and stronger.

"Especially pleased for the guys who got on the scoresheet. Good for Charlie, that's his first goal in pre-season and it was a good finish.

"All in all, good response to going behind to a very technical team. We were able to find a way back into the game, and we'll need to do that on occasions this year."
