Summer signing Mohamed Elyounoussi is confident Southampton will be ready for the start of the new Premier League season.
The Norwegian international forward made his debut in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Derby, playing the first 45 minutes of the friendly clash.
Elyounoussi, who is settling in well to life at St Mary’s, insists it’s all about peaking at the right time.
“It feels good to get some minutes out on the pitch,” he said.
“We’ve been training good and we want to keep that going. I’m pretty sure we will be ready when the season starts.
“The legs feel alright, they feel good and now Évian is ahead of us so we want to have another good week out there.
“As a new player, it’s always important to have some time to get to know the lads. So far it’s been good, and I can’t wait for more of that.
“There’s been a lot of travelling, back and forth to China, but the club have been really helpful with finding property and stuff like that.
“It’s been really easy. I’m grateful to be here and excited for the season to start.
“I like the way we want to play this year and the training has been good as well. I am pretty sure we are going to step it up and get our game better than today.
“We need to be ready for the first week – that’s when it really matters, and it’s about the three points.”
