Southampton boss Mark Hughes felt his side were worthy 3-2 winners in their latest pre-season friendly, against Chinese Super League outfit Jiangsu Suning.
Success in Xuzhou followed on from the 3-3 draw with FC Schalke, with the latest outing allowing Hughes to get more valuable minutes into his side.
“I thought it was exactly what we needed. Once again, the preparation and the opposition has been good,” Hughes reflected.
“They had good energy and we had to match. We’ve been able to give good game-time to a number of the players.
Mark HughesI think we’ve shown we have a decent threat. I thought we showed good patience and moved the ball quickly.
“The more senior players have got the vast majority of the game-time. We’ll balance that up as the games come along so by the time we’re ready to go for the first Premier League game everyone will have had their amount of time.
“It was a good game. The couple of goals we conceded early on were probably down to the time of the year and the beginning of pre-season, which can happen.
“We came back from those setbacks well and deserved to win.”
Goals from Manolo Gabbiadini, Nathan Redmond and Sam Gallagher sealed the win and, after netting six times across the training camp, Hughes was pleased with the attacking intent.
He added: “I think we’ve shown we have a decent threat. They got a lot of people behind the ball, so it was more difficult to break them down, but I thought we showed good patience and moved the ball quickly.”
