Tadić opens World Cup account with victory

Dušan Tadić's Serbia edged past Costa Rica in their opening Group E game, thanks to a stunning free-kick from captain Aleksander Kolarov.

The goal was scored midway through the second half, as Serbia got their World Cup campaign off to a bright start with a 1-0 victory.

Costa Rica were proving resilient in open play, but the difference came when Kolarov stepped up to bury a dead ball from 25-yards, lighting up an otherwise tight affair in the southern Russian city of Samara.

Tadić played 83 minutes of the tie, and with Brazil heavy favourites to win the group, which also features Switzerland, the win delivered what could prove to be a vital three points for Serbia.
