Southampton’s interest in this year’s World Cup kicks off tonight as Cédric’s Portugal get their campaign under way against Spain.
The fixture was already billed as the standout clash of the group stages, but has sparked further interest after Spanish boss Julen Lopetegui was sacked on the eve of the tournament.
European champions Portugal are in decent form, coming through their three warm-up games against Tunisia, Belgium and Algeria unbeaten.
Cédric completed the full 90 minutes in the two most recent of those, and will be expected to win the group should they upset favourites Spain.
Morocco and Iran, the Group B outsiders, go head to head at 4pm, while Portugal are in action at 7pm.
Cédric’s fellow Saint Dušan Tadić of Serbia gets his World Cup under way against Costa Rica on Sunday, while Maya Yoshida and Jan Bednarek – drawn in the same group – will be up and running on Monday.
