Jan Bednarek and Maya Yoshida both enjoyed morale-boosting friendly victories on the eve of their respective World Cup journeys on Tuesday.

In the later of the two kick-offs in Warsaw, Saints’ Bednarek did his chances of claiming a starring role for Poland in Russia no harm at all in his second consecutive start before being substituted after 53 minutes.

The hosts comfortably defeated Lithuania 4-0 at the National Stadium where late strikes from Dawid Kownacki and Jakub Blaszczykowski added to Robert Lewandowski’s first-half double to send the Poles to the World Cup full of confidence.

Elsewhere earlier in the day, Maya Yoshida was an unused substitute as Japan impressed in their 4-2 success over Paraguay in Innsbruck.

Borussia Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa scored and provided two assists as the Samurai Blue came from behind to beat the South Americans, who failed to qualify for the finals in Russia.

The Saints defensive pairing are in line to face off against each other in the final fixture of Group H on June 28. Both kick off their campaigns next Tuesday, Maya taking on Colombia and Jan facing Senegal.
