Cédric features in Belgium stalemate

Southampton defender Cédric played the full 90 minutes for Portugal as they stepped up their World Cup preparations with a 0-0 draw against Belgium in Brussels.

Despite chances for both sides, the breakthrough proved elusive at the Heysel Stadium. The hosts went close after 31 minutes when Yannick Carrasco dragged an effort just wide.

European champions Portugal responded just before half-time when Bernardo Silva saw a shot blocked, before Goncalo Guedes troubled the keeper with a curled effort that was a whisker away.

Roberto Martinez made a number of changes at the interval, and just after the hour mark Thomas Meunier had arguably the best chance of the contest when Beto made an important save one-on-one.

Portugal will now face Algeria on 7th June at Estádio da Luz in their final friendly before heading to Russia for the World Cup.

They will go up against Spain, Iran and Morocco in Group B at the finals.
