A late surge for a top five spot has given Radhi Jaïdi's side an outside chance of making the PL2 play-offs this evening, as they prepare for their final league clash of the season against Middlesbrough.
St Mary's will host the tie, with Jaïdi setting his sights on the chance to play for a place in Division One - the highest level of league football for an Under-23s side.
His youngsters, buoyed by a good performance and win against Fulham last time out, are now within a point of fifth placed Reading, who themselves face Stoke City tonight.
The margins are tight, but Jaïdi is confident his youngsters have what it takes to sneak inside the top five: "We need to always refer to the highest level, Division One was our aim," he began. "Hopefully we can get ourselves back there. We want to compete against the biggest clubs.
"The success of the season is always referring to developing the players, getting them to the next level. I always say to our boys, measure yourself against the first team. Learn from them and bring that level to your 23s performances.
"We've seen vast improvements, more passion and desire in many of them. The players have become more self-driven. We're working harder, and we've matured.
"They're also making the right decisions, in and outside of the pitch. One game to go, and I hope that game will give us the opportunity to go to the play-offs!"
