Mark Hughes has urged his Southampton players to seize the opportunity presented to them on Sunday, as they bid to reach the FA Cup final.
Saints travel to Wembley Stadium to take on Chelsea, with the winner advancing to face either Manchester United or Tottenham in next month’s showpiece match.
For Hughes, who lifted the famous trophy four times during his playing career, there is no doubting how special the competition can be.
"You don't get too many opportunities in your career to get to a major cup final,” the Saints boss said. “We've got one, so we should grasp the opportunity and make the most of it.
"For me, as a kid growing up, to get to an FA Cup final was one of the major goals that I had, and I think everybody on the school parade ground always wanted to feel that they would get to an FA Cup final. Very few of us did, and our guys have got an opportunity to do it.
"It is a one-off game, it's an opportunity to get to a major cup final, so why don't you go out and enjoy it – and give your utmost, as the guys always do – and let's hope we take that final step.
“It would be great for the club if we could get to a cup final. It's a fixture in the football calendar that everybody looks forward to and you'd like to be part of that and from my point of view it will help me maybe with a view to who I go with and which way we go against Bournemouth, so on a lot of levels it's an important fixture for us.”
