Butterfield: An opportunity missed

Empty handed after a dominant display, Danny Butterfield spoke of an overwhelming feeling of frustration as Saints had points snatched from them by visiting side Arsenal.

The tale of two penalties, one missed and one converted, dominated the game's talking points, after Jonathan Afolabi squandered his chance from 12 yards, before matchwinner Matthew Smith made no mistake with his.

The 1-0 scoreline, harsh on Saints, means Arsenal edge away in the league standings, with three games remaining.

"It was one of those games where the team who deserved the three points came out with nothing," Butterfield commented.

"We created so many chances, but you can't create that much and be as poor in the final third as we were.

"We had enough openings to win four or five games, but their keeper has made some unbelievable saves. Credit to him.

"Certainly frustrating. An opportunity missed. We were in positions where their goalkeeper shouldn't be favourite to make the save.

"We should be sat here with three points, yet we're empty handed. So something to reflect on and learn from."
