Jan Bednarek says Southampton must respond quickly after a devastating defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League.

Bednarek, who was making his Premier League debut in place of suspended Jack Stephens, put Saints 2-0 ahead on the hour mark before three goals in an eight-minute spell saw the visitors win it.

“We are disappointed of course because we gave our best but it wasn’t enough. Inside though, we are positive because we can see that we can be a good team and achieve a lot together.

“We controlled 70 minutes of the game but we need to control the full 90. That’s the lesson for us, to be focused for the whole game and to stay compact.

“We need to improve from this and keep going.

“We need to stick together, take the positives from this game and improve what was wrong. I think we have a big chance to stay up because we’re a strong team.

“Our situation is not so bad, we need to win a couple of games and keep going.”
