Coach Radhi Jaïdi described his youngsters as "outstanding" in the aftermath of their 2-0 away victory over Fulham.
Jaïdi reserved special praise for matchwinner Nathan Tella, who netted a brace on the night, while the three points also gave Saints a fighting chance of making the PL2 play-offs.
Southampton's youngsters will have to wait on other results to know their final league standing, but will go in to next week's concluding clash with Middlesborough confident of taking maximum spoils after tonight's exploits.
"I think it was an outstanding performance, probably the best this season," Jaïdi explained. "That is the first time I've seen the boys really focussed, and making it difficult for the opposition throughout.
"They created a lot of chances, in a mature way. So credit to the boys, the whole week they've worked hard. They deserved the win.
"The only frustration was that we didn't score more goals. Nathan [Tella] was looking for runs behind, the pace he has is superb, and today his work paid off.
"We'll try to win our final game, that will give us six points from these two games - then we have to wait on other results. I wish tonight's performance was replicated across the rest of the season, but it's always a learning curve for the boys."
