Radhi Jaïdi hopes a difficult night for Southampton Under-23s in the Premier League Cup will prove the making of his players.
The boss admitted his side were below par against a Leicester team who scored twice in each half to run out 4-0 winners at Staplewood.
The young Saints now have a quick turnaround as they return to league action with a trip to Blackburn on Monday – something Jaïdi believes could be a blessing.
“It’s a disappointing result,” he said. “We didn’t play the way we usually play; we didn’t control the game.
“We played against physically better players, and more experienced players. It’s something that our younger boys can hopefully learn from.
“At this level, you need to understand that when you make a mistake, you pay.
“Probably the best thing for us is that we can prepare for Monday’s game, with only two days to get ready and bounce back.
“We had a good reflection in the changing room and the boys understand the requirement now to step up again and hopefully go with a better mindset to react at Blackburn.”
