Two-goal hero Michael Obafemi was delighted to take his tally for the season to 16 after Southampton Under-23s saw off Norwich on an eventful night at Staplewood.
The teenage striker broke the deadlock inside 13 seconds in Premier League 2, before the visitors were reduced to ten men for an off-the-ball incident after the half-time whistle.
Saints’ Jake Hesketh then had a penalty saved on the hour, and the visitors looked to have snatched a point 12 minutes from the end before Obafemi pounced in stoppage time.
“It was an extravagant end to the game and I’m happy to get the brace and win the game,” Obafemi said.
“I was glad the early chance fell to me and I took it.
“It boosted my confidence and helped me get the second one late on.
“I’ve got 16 for the season now and I’m happy to kick on.”
Obafemi admitted Saints struggled to find their rhythm after the interval, even with a lead against the depleted Canaries.
“They were down to ten men at half-time and we knew we had to go again in the second half,” he added.
“It took us quite a while to get going, but in the end we won the game.”
