Saints were held to a goalless stalemate at Blackburn last night thanks to a fine goalkeeping display from Jack Rose, and his opposite number Charlie Albinson, rendering the home side Group B victors in the Premier League Cup.

Radhi Jaïdi's side had already secured progression, but a share of Monday night's spoils was only enough to cement second spot, as Blackburn held on to their place afoot of a tightly contested group.

Saints will find out this week who awaits in the knockout phases, but it's clear that both coaching staff and players have desires on going far in this year's cup competition.

"We've got a great group of lads in the dressing room, and we know we can go far [in the competition]," Rose commented.

"The lads battled really well, we actually could have won the game. Their 'keeper also made some good saves.

"Ultimately my job is to keep the ball out of the net, and I'm thankful I did that last night.

"I've had a few [penalties] against me this season, so it was about time I saved one. You get a feeling, and you have to trust it. Thankfully he went the way I did," the 23-year-old explained, after his first-half penalty stop kept Saints in the game.

He added: "We've had feedback from the coaches, who also think we're capable of going far so we'll just take every game as it comes!"
