Mauricio Pellegrino has underlined the importance of building on last weekend's performance and result against Tottenham when his Southampton side host Watford in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday.
Saints earned a 1-1 draw with high-flying Spurs, and went close to claiming all three points, as they turned in a strong display in front of their home crowd.
Attention now turns to the fourth-round tie with the Hornets, at St Mary's, and Pellegrino says it is high time his side built on a good point against one of the Premier League's top teams.
"Even when you pick up a point against a top side you have to be humble and analyse how you can move forward and how you can improve," he said.
"We are trying to improve in all different aspects. In recent matches, we draw against Arsenal, Manchester United or Tottenham, but we couldn't move forward in games that on paper we have to win, and this is our target now, our goal, our purpose.
"In the next game, against Watford, we want to move to another round, and we've got this first 90 minutes as a possibility. It could be 90 minutes, it could be 180, but we have to start thinking about our first step and to be focused on ourselves.
"I think the last five games the team is moving one step forward, not in terms of results, but in terms of different aspects in attack and defence and we have to keep going, keep the momentum, and it will be really important."
With big Premier League games on the horizon at home to Brighton and away to West Brom to follow, Pellegrino knows the importance of building some momentum for that key double-header.
"I think we have to start thinking about the first game and for us this is the most important," he said.
"Then, after, we will have time to think about the next few games, because, obviously, in seven days we have got three games, but we have to think about the first one."
