Southampton headed into the weekend in 17th position, but slipped to 18th following Saturday's action. However, a number of teams ahead of them remain within striking distance, and victory would move Mauricio Pellegrino's side up at least three spots.

For Spurs, they begin the latest round of matches in fifth position, three points off the top four, and will be keen to at least keep pace with those already occupying the Champions League spots.

Southampton: Maya Yoshida is the main doubt for Southampton, having missed the trip to Watford through injury. The centre-back was due to be assessed today, although Mauricio Pellegrino revealed that there is a good chance the game will come too soon for him.

Tottenham: Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been suffering from illness and is being monitored ahead of the match. Danny Rose and Harry Winks (both knee) remain out, as does former Southampton defender Toby Alderweireld, who has been missing with a hamstring injury.

Southampton’s previous five:

Watford (a) D 2-2
Fulham (a) W 1-0 (FA Cup)
Crystal Palace (h) L 1-2
Manchester United (a) D 0-0
Tottenham (a) L 2-5

Tottenham’s previous five:

Everton (h) W 4-0
AFC Wimbledon (h) W 3-0 (FA Cup)
West Ham (h) D 1-1
Swansea (a) W 2-0
Southampton (h) W 5-2

James Ward-Prowse is the man in form for Saints right now. The midfielder netted his first goal of the season in the 1-0 FA Cup victory at Fulham, before following that up with both the team’s goals in the 2-2 draw at Watford.

Spurs possess a number of significant threats, but none more potent than striker Harry Kane, who has already passed the 30-goal mark for the season. Having netted a hat-trick against Saints last month, he has scored four in his last two, while he is ably assisted by the likes of Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min and Christian Eriksen.

Top scorers: Harry Kane (31), Son Heung-Min (12), Dele Alli (9), Christian Eriksen (9)

Most assists: Dele Alli (11), Kieran Trippier (9), Christian Eriksen (7)
