Maya Yoshida is intent on using the Manchester United performance as a platform for improving results, with today's crucial Crystal Palace clash nearing.
St Mary's will host its first Premier League fixture of 2018 this evening and the defender is aware of just how significant a positive result would be, with Roy Hodgson's side a mere point adrift in the league standings.
"Palace are close to us in the table," Yoshida began. "And through the season we've lost too many points against teams who are around us.
"It is a home game and the beginning of a new year, and I'd like to wish Saints fans a great one.
"I think a lot of confidence can be taken from the United result, but it isn't just about that one game.
"We need a string of good games to build confidence, to keep clean sheets, and the results will improve."
