Pierre-Emile Højbjerg issued a heartfelt response after Southampton's heavy defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur on Boxing Day.
Saints were beaten 5-2 at Wembley Stadium on a chastening afternoon, and Højbjerg summed up the hurt that he was feeling after the match.
"The disappointment is huge when you lose, and when you lose like this – at one point we were 5-1 down – it is of course devastating," he said.
"It's frustrating, it's disappointing – there's a lot of words, a lot of things in my mind, but I think it's important now that we show what we are, that we stand up and show the character that we have.

"In each person we must show that, and also as a team – that we still have something to say, still have something to do and most importantly have something to show.
"We always need to keep going with a clear mind. But after today we have to look at ourselves in the mirror and ask if we really did everything that was possible to get the margins, or the luck, or the result that we could have gotten here.
"I think in times like this you must show the spirit, character and mentality of the team and this is what we need to show now, because there is no doubt that we have amazing players and a good squad to compete, in my opinion, against even the very best. It is now that we need to show who we are and what we came here to do."
