A promising performance from Saints’ Sam Gallagher helped Birmingham City to a crucial 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Operating on the left of a front three, Gallagher was a constant thorn in the side of the visiting defence and was unfortunate not to add an assist and a goal of his own to Che Adams’ fifth-minute decider.
A delightful flick over an onrushing defender almost led to a second for strike partner Adams and a Michael Mancienne block kept out his goalbound shot late on.
The weekend’s other winner was Jordy Clasie, the Dutchman a substitute in Club Brugge’s 3-0 win over Waasland Beveren. Clasie’s loan club now sit six points clear at the summit of the Belgian top-flight.
Elsewhere, Ryan Seager’s MK Dons played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Charlton at The Valley. The youngster featured for 58 minutes of the game which saw Dons’ Kieran Agard strike twice in the second half to secure a point for Robbie Nielsen’s side.
In Scotland, Harry Lewis kept a clean sheet in Dundee United’s 3-0 win over Falkirk. The result moved Lewis and co. to the top of the Championship.
Harrison Reed was an unused substitute in Norwich’s 1-1 draw with Barnsley.
