Southampton forward Sam Gallagher has joined Birmingham City on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old links up with Championship club for the rest of the 2017/18 season, and will look to help the Midlands outfit to challenge at the top end of the table.

Gallagher signed a new four-year contract at St Mary’s this summer, after spending the 2016/17 campaign on loan with Blackburn Rovers, where he scored 12 goals, and the move to St Andrew’s will give him the opportunity to improve his game even further with regular game time.

Vice Chairman (Football) Les Reed said: “Sam is a player who gained invaluable experience at Championship level with Blackburn Rovers last season.

“He contributed an impressive 12 goals and we were also really pleased with the improvements to his all-round game during that time. He impressed Mauricio in pre-season and the manager has given Sam some targets to achieve on loan.

“He has many exciting years ahead of him here, after reinforcing his commitment to the club this summer with a new four-year contract

“Sam and the club feel that regular game at Birmingham City, who have strong ambitions to be towards the top end of the Championship, will help him improve even further and we look forward to monitoring his progression.”
