Mauricio Pellegrino wants to see Southampton kick-start their Premier League campaign with a positive result on Saturday.

Saints host Swansea City at St Mary’s in their season opener, and the manager wants his side to make the most of their home advantage.

“Hopefully we will have a nice performance,” started Pellegrino.

“I think we are well prepared. We do not have another possibility to win our first game – this is the only one.

“We have to make the most of it and to try and win this game and do our best in front of our own fans.”

Paul Clement's Swansea side stand in the way of Pellegrino and his first Premier League win as Saints boss.

And the Argentine is more than aware of the threat his side will face.

“I think it will be really tough,” he continued.

“Swansea are a good team. They are well balanced and try to keep the ball. They have big players, but I think we have the strength to rival them.

“I am calm because I have seen the players training in a good way. I have been pleased with what I have seen.”
