Paulo Gazzaniga started for Rayo Vallecano again, as they edged towards safety in the Spanish Segunda División with a 1-1 home draw against promotion chasers Tenerife.
Having beaten second-placed Girona 3-1 last time out to pull clear of the relegation zone, Rayo continued their impressive form with a point against the division’s third-placed team at the weekend.
Gazzaniga was beaten in the third minute, by Amath Diedhiou, but the hosts levelled midway through the first half, via Adri Embarba.
The result keeps Rayo in 16th position, three places and one point above the drop zone.
Back in England, there was also a 1-1 home draw for defender Jason McCarthy, who played the full game for Walsall against Oxford.
Andreas Makris had given the hosts the lead early in the second half, but Chris Maguire equalised with 16 minutes left to deny them a full complement of points.
Walsall, who visit Shrewsbury this Friday, are 14th in League One ahead of their final five games of the season.
In the Championship, Sam Gallagher couldn’t prevent Blackburn from falling deeper into relegation trouble, as they suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Barnsley.
Gallagher started on the bench at Ewood Park and was introduced in the 53rd minute, but, by then, the hosts were already two behind, after Marc Roberts and Marley Watkins netted for the Tykes in the opening ten minutes.
Rovers visit Forest this Friday, and are now four points adrift of safety ahead of their last five matches of the season.
