Southampton showed great persistence and patience to overcome Crystal Palace, according to manager Claude Puel.
Despite creating a number of good early chances, Saints found themselves trailing at St Mary’s thanks to Christian Benteke’s opener.
But Puel was pleased with the manner in which his players responded to that setback.
“It was important to keep our calm,” he explained.
“Despite all our opportunities in the first half we went behind, but it was important to continue our work and create chances.
“The whole team attacked and defended well, and showed great quality on the pitch – it was a fantastic result.”
Nathan Redmond eventually levelled just before the interval, before Maya Yoshida and James Ward-Prowse sealed all three points in the second half.
And Puel has now challenged his men to use the win to tee up a strong run until the end of the season.
“It was important to take the points,” he continued.
“But we will see how this result will be for us to gain momentum. We will see in the next game how that impacts us.
“I think it was an important game because it pushes us further up the table and now we want to keep going right until the end of the season.”
