Radhi Jaïdi wants the disappointment of last week’s draw against Chelsea to spur Southampton Under-23s on to victory against Manchester United.
Saints travel to Old Trafford on Monday night knowing that a victory would make a huge difference to their standing in the Premier League 2 table.
“There’s a mixed emotion with the boys,” started Jaïdi.
“It will be a good experience to play at Old Trafford, but obviously the other side of it all is that we need to see a reaction from them.
“There was a little bit of a disappointment not to get three points from our last game against Chelsea, but still a draw gets us one point further forward.”
The reverse fixture of this tie took place at St Mary’s back in August, when Saints marched to a 2-0 victory over United.
Josh Sims and Jack Stephens were the goalscorers that day, whilst five other players in that squad have since been involved with the first team this year.
“A part of our role is that we need to develop players,” continued Jaïdi.
“I think we are pretty good at that. We have kept the consistency of doing it for a couple of years now and that has been the same this season.
“That is what we are all about. Providing these kinds of opportunities for the boys to show their quality and put in great performances for the first team.”
