Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has hailed the impact of Manolo Gabbiadini following the striker's arrival at the club.

The Italian has hit six goals in his first four matches, scoring on every single appearance so far, in what has been a sensational start to his time on the south coast.

His performances have drawn high praise from Le Tissier, who explained how much he has enjoyed watching him.

"We've signed a very good centre forward, in Manolo Gabbiadini," he said. "He's had a flying start and has been fantastic for us.

"It's been there for all to see. His movement as a centre-forward causes defenders a whole lot of problems. They have trouble finding out where he is at times, with his sharpness in the box.

"That second goal in the cup final was a sublime finish. There's not many strikers who are that sharp in the box to react that quickly to something dropping there, and I thought it was a brilliant finish.

"We've struggled for goals a little bit this season. Obviously, Charlie's been injured, Shane and Jay haven't been scoring as regularly as we'd have liked them to, so for a centre-forward to come in and hit the ground running has been a big lift to the team, and the midfield especially.

"If you're creating chances and they're not being put away, it gets a little bit frustrating at times and it's nice to see the ball hitting the back of the net."
