Southampton Under-23s coach Radhi Jaidi has called for consistency from his group, ahead of their clash with Reading in Premier League 2.
Saints currently sit 7th in the table, and have already met with the Royals twice this season.
And after a short break following their Checkatrade Trophy exit on penalties to the same opponents, Jaidi is hoping his side will return re-energised.
“Consistency is what we’re looking for. We’ve been performing ups and downs and the results have been the same,” said Jaidi.
“We’re looking for individual and collective performance so we’ll see what’s going to happen by the end of the season.
“We’ll know who has been performing consistency and who is not but we want the boys to learn that and have it automatically.
“We wanted to give the boys some rest over the festive period and to have some time with the family to come back ready to perform and step up, to show better performance through throughout the end of the season.”
With opponents they are now more than familiar with next up, Jaidi says the side will prepared meticulously for everything they may face.
“We’ve played them twice, once in the league and in the Checkatrade Trophy so we know them well and hopefully we will get ready for the game on Friday,” he continued.
“I think the boys know everything so there won’t be too much information, the only thing we need to do is deal with them like we did in the league before.
“We saw a different Reading in the Checkatrade Trophy so we need to be ready for any scenario.
“We saw them in the last game, every time we pressed them they went long so we’ll be ready for long balls and the second balls.
“If they try to play out then we will be ready for that as well. They have weaknesses and we will try to use that.”
