James Ward-Prowse wants Southampton to focus on putting Wednesday’s result against Tottenham behind them ahead of Saturday’s game against West Bromwich Albion.
In the aftermath of the midweek game, Ward-Prowse said there were plusses to take, but was already looking to put one over the Baggies when they visit St Mary’s at the weekend.
“We have to take the positives,” he said. “I think the way that we played even with ten men was very solid and the two late goals didn’t really reflect that and the performance overall.
“We had taken the positives out of the first half (against Spurs) and felt we could pick up the energy to go again and the two late goals were very clinical.
“I think on another day they’d have gone in but on the day they were very clinical and it is obviously a bit of a downer so we have to take the positives from the way we started the game and the character we showed, but it just wasn’t to be.”
Saints take on a West Brom side just below them in the Premier League table, and Ward-Prowse is grateful for that opportunity.
“That’s the nice thing,” he said. “We’ve got a great chance to put things right.
“It (Wednesday) wasn’t ideal but we have to pick ourselves up and go again in a few days’ time.”
