McQueen: Boufal a joy to watch

Sam McQueen believes that Sofiane Boufal can develop into an “unbelievable player” for Southampton.

Boufal’s stunning strike against Middlesbrough on Sunday got Saints back to winning ways in the Premier League, following on from a screamer against Sunderland in the EFL Cup back in October.

McQueen, who started at left-back against Boro, heaped praise on the Moroccan international following the game, and is confident there is more to come.

“It was a fantastic goal. He did something similar against Sunderland. It was a joy to watch and be a part of it,” McQueen said.

“Sometimes with these games where there aren’t many chances you need a moment of brilliance to give you that lift and that bit of belief.

“When he first came to the club he was injured, but as soon as he was on the pitch, he was showing his qualities.

“His feet are mesmerising at times. He’s got the quality and the ability, that can’t be questioned.

“He’s got more to come, and he can add a bit more in terms of physicality, intelligence and decision making, but he’s got real class.

“If he gets those small things right, he can be an unbelievable player.”
