Puel happy for Boufal after winning goal

Claude Puel praised Sofiane Boufal after his stunning strike sealed all three points for Southampton against Middlesbrough.

After a tough first half for the whole side, Boufal produced a moment of magic in the 53rd minute, as he fired home the only goal of the game.

The Moroccan international, who missed out through injury against Hapoel Be’er Sheva, has now netted two stunning strikes at St Mary’s, and his manager was very pleased post match.

“Like all of the team, Sofiane had difficulty in the first half, with a lot of dribbles without the final quality,” Puel said.

“But he came back like his teammates in the second half with a good spirit and a good attitude.

“He showed good quality on the ground and he scored a fantastic goal. I’m happy for him, because I think we have to be patient with him.

“He was injured for five months, so it’s always difficult to come back.”

Puel believes Boufal will continue to improve, as he adapts to a new league, new teammates and new surroundings.

“For the first time he’s in another championship, another country and with new teammates,” Puel continued.

“Step by step he will bring his qualities and we could see that today. He made the difference.

“It’s important he keeps a good attitude and important that he continues to make improvements.”
