Claude Puel admitted that his planning for the Everton game was "difficult" in the lead up to kick-off on Sunday.
The Southampton boss was without Sofiane Boufal and Steven Davis for the 1-0 victory over the Toffees, with the duo sidelined by injury and illness respectively.
Following Thursday’s game against Sparta Praha, Puel needed to rotate his squad again, but conceded it left him with some selection dilemmas, as he handed youngster Josh Sims a full debut.
“It was a difficult game to prepare for, because we lost our last game against Sparta Prague and we had the tiredness,” he said.
“We also had a lot of problems before the game with injuries and sick players,” the Frenchman added.
“Sofiane Boufal felt a pain yesterday so it was not possible for him, but we will see for the next game against Arsenal, and Davis had a problem with his head, he was sick."
