Jason McCarthy helped Walsall earn a point on the road, as they were denied late on in their 1-1 draw with Milton Keynes Dons in League One.

Scott Laird’s second goal of the campaign looked to have secured victory for the West Midlands side, but a last-gasp leveller from Dean Bowditch earned the hosts a share of the spoils.

McCarthy, making his 21st appearance for his loan club, played the full 90 minutes of the fixture, which left Jon Whitney’s men 14th in the table.

Meanwhile, Dominic Gape was also involved in the weekend’s domestic action as he played 45 minutes of Wycombe Wanderer’s 2-0 success against Morecambe in League Two.

It was a first win in five league games for Gareth Ainsworth’s men, courtesy of second-half goals from Luke O’Nien and Aaron Pierre.

Pierre met a Joe Jacobson free-kick to head beyond Barry Roche from six yards out before O’Nien headed home a Paul Hayes’ cross on 81 minutes to secure all three points.

In Spain, goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga was on the losing side with Rayo Vallecano as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Club Deportivo Lugo in Segunda División.

A first-half effort from Fernando Seoane proved the difference at Estadio Anxo Carro, as Vallecano fell to 18th.
