Austin: It was a great team display

Charlie Austin praised a performance with character after his brace helped see off Burnley at St Mary’s.

Austin was on target twice to make it seven goals in six games and extend a superb personal run of form that is running concurrently with the teams.

After helping to make it seven unbeaten in all competitions, with his goals coming either side of a Nathan Redmond strike, he was delighted with a solid team display.

Austin said: “It’s a great win and a good team performance. We worked really hard and knew if we didn’t get an early goal it would be a tough afternoon.

“In the first-half I missed a couple of chances but we created a lot but as soon as we got that goal we were comfortable pushing on for the second and third.

“Unfortunately we didn’t get the clean sheet today but it’s a great team result.

He added: “We showed character, we pushed on and in the end it could have been four or five.

“We kept the ball superbly, moved it very well and when the chances came we made sure we put them away.”
