Steven Davis is targeting another season of progression with Southampton, after committing his future to the club for the next three years.
The midfielder, who is currently captaining Northern Ireland at EURO 2016, signed a new contract on Saturday, which will take him through to the summer of 2019 at St Mary’s.
With the club having enjoyed seven consecutive seasons of progression – and Davis having been part of the last four of those – the challenge is now to extend that into an eighth campaign.
As well as the Premier League and the traditional cup competitions, Saints also have the group stages of the Europa League to look forward to in 2016/17.
Davis, therefore, believes that there is plenty of opportunity for the team to improve again.
“We've got a lot to look forward to,” he told saintsfc.co.uk. “Obviously, European competition. We're an ambitious group and we want to go on and do better again than last season. There's a lot to look forward to this year.
“There's a real ambition from everybody at the club to try and improve and do better.
“The foundations that are in place are brilliant. Obviously, we've moved into the training ground as well in the last year or two, so everything's been great and it's a great place to play your football.
“Hopefully we can go on and go again, and keep progressing. I believe that we're capable of maybe going and winning a trophy, but we have to go out and show that on the pitch.”
