Southampton defender Cuco Martina captained his native Curaçao in their 5-2 win over Guyana in a Caribbean Cup qualifying group game on Wednesday night.
Curaçao, coached by Dutchman Patrick Kluivert and ranked 152 in the world, put a big step towards the next round in qualifying for the tournament with a big victory at the Ergilio Hato Stadium.
Martina, who earned his 24th cap for the side, started the game at centre-back for the team, and they led 2-1 at half-time before completing their victory in the second 45.
Felitciano Zschusschen contributed a hat-trick and, FK AS Trenčín’s Gino van Kessel scored the other two goals for the hosts.
Next up for Martina’s side is a game against US Virgin Islands on Tuesday night when they can confirm progress into the next stage of the competition.
The group winner and a further four best runners-up from the second qualifying round groups go through. The third and final qualifying round begins in October.
