Southampton Football Club is pleased to announce Head of Sports Science Alek Gross has been HPSA accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science.
The High Performance Sport accreditation is the highest possible qualification for sport and exercise scientists and is globally acknowledged.
Alek is one of just a handful of people working within football to have received this accreditation, which will allow him to supervise other club staff through the BASES accreditation.
Now a Chartered Scientist, Alek will also act as a supervisor for any external practitioners that wish to become accredited at this level.
Speaking about Alek’s accomplishments, Executive Director of Football Les Reed said: “This accreditation for Alek is another indication of how Southampton is making strides into new territory and keeping that cutting edge.
“Alek will now continue to break new ground and lead the Sport and Exercise Science department at the club into the next long-term strategy.”
Alek added: “It’s really pleasing on a personal level to have achieved this accreditation, which is really important for someone in my line of work.
“It allows me to be a consultant for not just members of our department here at Southampton, but also external sports scientists who wish to gain accreditation.
“For the club it will only help to further emphasise the strong group of staff we have here, highlighting the good work we do to support the needs of our players.”
