Barnes signs new four-year contract with Saints

Under-21s forward Marcus Barnes has signed a new four-year contract, Southampton Football Club is pleased to confirm.

The forward's new deal will see him remain at St Mary's until 2020, as he pledged his long-term future to the club earlier this week.

Barnes, who previously signed professional terms with the club aged 17 in December 2013, took significant strides with the club in the 2014/15 season when he finished the campaign as top scorer for the Under-18s with 13 goals from 26 games.

This season started well for the youngster as he struck two goals in the opening four matches of the campaign for the Under-21s, but an injury curtailed his involvement for the rest of the season.

Now fully recovered and looking ahead to next season, Barnes is delighted to have put pen to paper on a new deal at the club.

“I’m very happy,” he told youtube.com/southamptonfc.

“I’m just happy to be here and happy to continue my development here thanks to the faith the club has shown in me.

“I’ve worked really hard and they’ve seen that. They’ve helped me do it and been with me all the way so that’s been nice."

Barnes will now look to return at the start of next season for Martin Hunter's men and build on what was an impressive start to the 2015/16 campaign before he suffered his injury.
