José Fonte is expecting another intense atmosphere at Leicester City when Saints visit the Premier League title chasers tomorrow.
Ronald Koeman’s side went to King Power Stadium in the final weeks of last season, and were beaten 2-0 in front of a raucous crowd by a Foxes team that was desperately fighting against relegation.
This time, though, they will travel there to take on a Leicester side that are closing in on a sensational title victory, and Fonte thinks it will be another outstanding atmosphere.
"It was last year when they were fighting against relegation, it was an incredible atmosphere,” the Saints captain told Southampton’s official YouTube channel.
“Their fans did a great job and our fans were really good as well. It's going to be a cracking game, a cracking atmosphere and I look forward to it.”
While there will understandably be significant focus on Leicester tomorrow, Fonte explained that talk of their situation is of no interest to Saints.
"I was asked many times if we want to go and ruin Leicester's bid for the title, and I've said this – we are not focused on ruining anyone's party, or anyone's title bid, we're focused on improving our position in the league, we're focused on ourselves and to achieve what we want to achieve, which is European competition,” he said.
“So, for us, it doesn't matter who's in first, second or third. We just want to go there and win the game and put ourselves in the position where we can compete for the big trophies and European competitions.”
