Mané grateful for Le Tissier praise

Sadio Mané says words of encouragement from Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier have given him a boost for this season.

Le Tissier commented in a recent interview: “Sadio is the one who gets you on the edge of your seat. He’s so unpredictable and defenders find it difficult to keep up with someone with that much pace.

“He puts defenders on the back foot straight away. This season he does seem to have found something a little bit extra, which is terrific.”

Speaking to the latest issue of SAINTS, Mané says that to have the support of an important figure associated to the club is something he is thrilled about.

“I thank him for that comment,” he said.

“He is a great legend not just in Southampton, but across football, and it’s a pleasure to hear that as it’s a big motivation for me to give my best and to be ready for the games, so I can give my best for the team, for the fans, and everybody at Southampton.”

Mané, who could line up against fellow Senegalese international Idrissa Gueye when Saints host Aston Villa on Saturday, expects a different type of game to the Capital One Cup match between the two sides in October.

“They have had some difficult moments, but I think they’re going good now because they made some goals in their last game,” he explained.

“They have many new players and they have changed coach too, so I think they will be a different team now.

“Everyone knows we have had some difficult moments too, but I think we will be ready for this game – especially as we are playing at home..

“Every player likes to play at their own stadium in front of their fans. We have many fans and they always try to push us.

“I am thankful they are always here for us as it’s important for the team and the individual players, too.”
