Aston Villa manager Rémi Garde expects Southampton to be looking for revenge after their defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night.
Saints suffered a 6-1 defeat at home to Jürgen Klopp’s side in midweek and return to action with the visit of Garde’s Villa on Saturday.
After three defeats in a row in all competitions, the Frenchman believes Ronald Koeman’s side will be hungrier than ever in their bid to bounce back.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of the game at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon, Garde said: “Southampton is a good club.
“For the last two seasons they have played good football. They have been in trouble in the past but now they are a strong Premier League team with a good manager.
“They play good football. It will of course be a tough game for us.
“The defeat [on Wednesday] was hard for them and they will probably be looking for revenge on Saturday. We will be prepared for that.”
Garde is still without a win since taking charge of Villa, having drawn his first game as manager against Manchester City and then suffered defeats against Everton and Watford.
Their poor start to the season has left them seven points adrift at the foot of the Barclays Premier League table and Garde knows their objective is clear.
“We know that we have to win games,” he added. “We didn’t win the last one. It was a disappointment.
“We should have got a better result. We made too many mistakes and conceded too many goals. To achieve what we want to do we have to be 100 per cent focused.”
