Yoshida set for Japan's qualifiers

By SFC Media Thu 27 Aug Club

Maya Yoshida has been named in the Japan squad for their upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Yoshida and Japan, who drew their opening qualifier against Singapore in June, will be looking for their first win against Cambodia in Satiama on Thursday 3rd September (kick-off: 11.25am BST).

Japan will then travel to Iran to face Afghanistan in their third qualifying game on Tuesday 8th September (kick-off: 1.25pm BST).

Japan currently sit fourth in Group E of the qualifying stage, knowing a first-placed finish would see them progress to the third round of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and secure a place at the 2019 Asian Cup.

Yoshida will return to Southampton following the conclusion of Japan’s game against Afghanistan.
