Ronald Koeman says he believes his side have the quality to progress in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
Koeman’s men are currently drawing 1-1 after a disappointing first leg against FC Midtjylland at St Mary’s last Thursday.
But ahead of the second leg at the MCH Arena, Koeman is confident his side have enough to see off the Danish champions.
“Of course I’m confident, because I believe in the qualities of the players,” he told youtube.com/southamptonfc.
“If we play on our level, doing less mistakes in our ball possession, if we press and play more direct, which we showed in the second half, I’m totally confident we can reach the European group stage.
“If we win the game it’s enough. It’s really European football if you reach the group stage because you have European football until December.
“We don’t want that to stop in August. We know what we have to do.”
Koeman doesn’t expect Midtjylland to change their approach to the second leg, having frustrated Saints at St Mary’s last week.
“They will not change,” he declared. “They will play on the same way and we have to create what we did in the second half. But we need to be more clinical.
“We have more information as we played against them compared to analysing other games. Maybe we are more prepared now.
“We know what they can do and what we have to do to win the game.”
