Pellè pleased with Mané partnership

Graziano Pellè believes he and Sadio Mané can form an impressive partnership for Southampton this season.

The two combined excellently on Thursday night as Mané rolled in Pellè to smash home the opening goal of the season for Ronald Koeman’s men.

It set Saints on their way to an impressive 3-0 win against Vitesse in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round clash, with Dušan Tadić and Shane Long adding the other goals.

Pellè was quick to praise Mané after the game for his assist, and his all-round play.

The Italian striker told youtube.com/southamptonfc: “Sadio gave me an amazing assist, but I have to work more to let him be in better situations and he has to do the same for me.

“We are really different. We know our qualities are completely different on the pitch.

“We can match really well when we play there. We know we have amazing offensive players in the team, but Sadio and I seem to match well and we have to show that.”

The duo provided Saints fans with plenty of cheer on Thursday night, and Pellè says the whole occasion at St Mary’s against Vitesse was a special one.

“The atmosphere was amazing as always. It’s nice to grow up as a team with the fans because last year we had a new record number of points,” Pellè added.

“We are hopefully reaching far in the Europa League in the best way we can and the atmosphere was amazing. It was a full stadium and they were always behind us.

“We have to try and please them with great performances.”
